Safety & Prevention Loss Coordinator
WORK LOCATION: Wastewater Treatment Plant, 51 E. 1st Street, Superior, WI
HOURS: Full-time; 8:00 am- 4:30 pm Monday-Friday (40 hours/week) and as otherwise needed.
STARTING SALARY: The starting salary will be closer to the lower end of the salary range of $28.95-$36.19, based on education & experience.
DEFINITION:
Under direction of the Stormwater and Administrative Manager this position has responsibility for the development and management of safety and loss prevention programs. Performs other related duties as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This employee develops, organizes, designs, and implements project and programs pertaining to the safety program and loss prevention program.

- Identify best practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process risks, raise safety awareness, and improve safe work practices
- Prepare and conduct applicable training and safety programs and materials in the following areas: New Employee Orientation, Right-to-Know, Confined Entry, Traffic Control, Chemical Hygiene Plan, Fire Safety, Fall Protection, Respiratory Protection Program, Diggers Hotline, Ergonomics, Emergency Response, Personal Protective Equipment, Excavating and Shoring, Medical First Aid, Blood borne Pathogens, Hearing Protection, Lock-Out/Tag-Out, Training Records.
- Conduct Job Safety Analysis for routine maintenance tasks for inclusion in the Maximo Work Order System.
- Order and maintain facility safety inventory including supplies and equipment.
- Conducts safety audits and inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.
- Maintains safety records.
- Conduct incident investigations for all incidents in which an employee is hurt, as well as close calls, identifying the root cause and providing suggestions for corrective actions to prevent future incidents.
- Keep abreast of all new and changing safety requirements.
- Document, analyze and track required information and prepare reports.
- May assist other City departments with safety related tasks, research, compliance or training.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
- Thorough knowledge of Regulations and application of safety requirement in the operation of wastewater and stormwater utilities.
- Teaching, presentation, and motivational techniques used in routine safety meetings and training
- Working knowledge of Computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets and data base systems, and geographic information systems.
- Some knowledge of Wastewater, stormwater and collection system operations, maintenance and engineering.
Ability to:
- Conduct research studies and surveys, analyze results and prepare the results.
- Write budgets, reports, policies, procedures, specifications, scopes of work, needs assessments, recommendations to management and grant applications.
- Plan and organize training programs and train, influence and motivate a variety of staff levels.
Requirements/Special Requirements
REQUIREMENTS:
- Training and experience: Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledges and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain these knowledges and abilities would be:
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in environmental health and safety, or closely related field and two years of experience with utility services such as wastewater, stormwater, municipal engineering, construction, or manufacturing.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- License Requirement:. Possession of a Wastewater Operator's Certificate issued by the State of Wisconsin is encouraged.
- Driver License Requirement: Must possess valid driver's license or be able to provide suitable transportation when necessary as approved by the department head.
- Residency Requirement: No residency requirement.
- Post Job Offer Medical Examination Requirement: Must successfully pass medical examination for specified occupational grouping and drug screen prior to hire.
