Academic Advisor - First Year, College of Science
Coastal Carolina University is seeking an Academic First Year Advisor (full-time, position with benefits) in the College of Science. This position will work closely with Department Chairs in advising students within their major.
Academic First Year Advisor – College of Science ( 2 Positions )
Duties include, but are not limited to: maintaining regular contact with students from building their schedules before summer orientation to assisting during each registration as students follow or adjust their plan of study; providing students with feedback on their academic progress; assisting the Chair or Chairs in providing all students within the department accurate and timely information on academic majors, University policies and regulations, and additional academic support services; meeting with students during their freshmen year; working closely with the Associate Dean and the other college advisors in developing, implementing, and evaluating retention strategies. Academic Advisors will teach one course each semester (UNTV 110 or courses in their discipline), and/or offer supplementary workshops and study sessions.
Requirements:
A bachelor's degree in a discipline within the College of Science and some experience related to advising or mentoring first year students is required. A master's degree in Student Services or discipline is preferred. Previous experience in college orientation/transition programs for new students is desirable. Successful candidate should have knowledge of academic advising; sound judgment; the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, parents, and faculty; tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive situations; the ability to maintain confidentiality; the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines; and a strong work ethic and commitment to student success.

Student Services Program Coordinator II (CB70/145687), full time position with benefits. SC State pay band 05. Normal work hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday with occasional weeknight, weekend, and as needed hours.
