The General James Hackler Golf Course at Coastal Carolina University is seeking candidates for the position of Golf Course Groundskeeper (full- time position with benefits). This position reports to the Golf Course Superintendent. This position is responsible for the operation of various sizes and specialized equipment and performing specialized periodic and routine manual labor in golf course maintenance.

Duties include, but are not limited to: setting tee markers and cups on greens daily; maintaining ball washers; replacing tee towels and flags when needed; removing debris, sand and seed tee and dropping area divots; cleaning flower beds; operating mowers and string trimmers in trimming greens, aprons, tees and around tees, fence lines, banks and hillsides; edges cart path, rake and maintaining sand bunkers; inspecting all machines and reporting any deficiencies to the Equipment Technician; marking the course for cart control and replacing work or lost ropes and signs, hazard and drop areas; cleaning machinery after each use; cleaning maintenance area as required; watering and fertilizing course as required; under supervision of a certified applicator, spraying chemicals on landscaped areas; assisting in project work including construction of new greens, tees and fairways, etc. and installing forms and lay walks and paths, excavating and backfilling ditches and trenches; repairing and replacing pipe on irrigation system; maintaining logs for the operation, maintenance, and gas usage of each machine; providing exceptional customer service to all constituents, including but not limited to, faculty, staff, students, visitors, and the community at large; and performing other functions and routine golf course maintenance activities as directed by the golf course superintendent or assistant superintendent.

Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent (GED) and at least six (6) months of experience in field maintenance are required. Previous experience with turf, horticulture, and/or landscape is also required. Prior trade school education and at least two (2) years of experience in golf course equipment operation and routine manual labor in golf course maintenance are preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. A successful candidate should also have working knowledge of general operation of gasoline, diesel and electric powered equipment used to perform grounds maintenance. Ability to receive written job orders and verbal instructions related to job functions.
