Coastal Carolina University seeks candidates for the following position: Information Security Analyst
Under the direction of the CITO’s Office, this position is responsible for assisting University units in evaluating their IT environment, recommending & implementing security measures and practices that comply with University policies & standards, and safeguard University information assets. This position collaborates closely with ITS units to enhance University information security posture related to systems, processes and services. This position works on tasks of a low to medium complexity with some supervision required. The position is responsible for performing procedures and providing technical solutions that serve to provide appropriate access to and protect systems from intentional or inadvertent access or destruction.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Assisting with the implementation and monitoring of the information security and IT risk assessment plans; working with users to achieve security objectives and address identified risks and implement measures and controls in alignment with University policies as well as state and federal regulations; responding to alerts and notifications in a timely manner including after normal work hours; assisting in developing and validating baseline security configurations for operating systems, applications, networking, and telecommunications equipment; assisting with carrying out procedures to ensure that all systems, products, and services meet University security standards; assisting in the development, preparation, and presentation of technical documentation (designs, specifications, processes, workflows) and communications, training materials, web content, and campus/ITS alerts and notifications; assisting with information security training and awareness programs; recommending solutions; translating security requirements into functional specifications; providing exceptional customer service to all constituents, including but not limited to, faculty, staff, students, visitors and the community at large; assisting supervisor and other ITS units with improving operational procedures, processes and standards as well as change management procedures in alignment and collaboration with ITS goals and objectives to advance the University mission; managing and utilizing University/ITS/individual resources and time effectively to accomplish tasks and projects; and ensuring and maintaining information security and confidentiality.
A bachelor’s degree in information technology systems, computer science, or related field and experience in information technology systems or related area are required. Relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis. Experience with managing firewalls or other security appliances, diagnostics of security problems, integrating security controls, implementing and maintaining vendor supplied security software, and/or participating on disaster recovery planning team preferred. Certifications in information security are desired. Certification such as Association of (ISC)2, GIAC, or agreed upon equivalent is expected to be accomplished within the first three years of employment. Additionally, a successful candidate should possess knowledge of major application solutions, operating systems, and network architecture; knowledge of security administration for various operating systems and software; the ability to write detailed technical documentation on security procedures; analytical and problem solving skills; knowledge of information risks concepts and principles as a means of relating business needs and security controls; the ability to communicate with audiences with varying levels of technical knowledge; basic knowledge of project management.
