Coastal Carolina University seeks candidates for the following (annual appointment with benefits) position: Instructional Designer & Technologist in the Center for Teaching Excellence to Advance Learning (CeTEAL).
The candidate selected will be a highly organized individual with the ability to work with university faculty, members of the faculty development center, and committees. The Instructional Designer & Technologist provides instructional technology professional development based on evidence-based practices to improve the teaching and learning process. This position coaches and trains faculty to integrate technology into online, blended/hybrid, and face-to-face classes and create learning environments that are accessible to all learners. This position will provide professional development for pedagogical practices using digital technologies in teaching, course management system, and will keep current with University supported technologies and in the field. This position reports to the Assistant Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence to Advance Learning, the University's faculty development center and also works closely with the Coastal Office of Online Learning.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing one-on-one and small group training for teaching, productivity, online, blended/hybrid, face-to-face classroom technologies and course management system (Moodle) as it relates to pedagogical practice; designing and developing instructional materials using best practices such as, universal design, backward design, idea-based learning, or similar for a variety of academic contexts; consulting with faculty to integrate instructional technology into the teaching and learning process and troubleshooting potential issues and seeking solutions applicable to the integration of technology in any instructional setting; keeping current through researching evidence-based practices within the field of faculty development and disciplinary-based pedagogies; modeling, promoting and ensuring exceptional customer service delivery to all constituents, including but not limited to, faculty, staff, students, visitors and the community at large; and other duties as assigned.
Requirements: Bachelor's degree in relevant field (instructional design, education, curriculum and instruction, instructional or educational technology or related area) and related instructional experience is required. Master's degree in relevant field preferred. Successful candidate should also possess: progressively responsible experience in the development of learning design; experience with faculty and learners with diverse backgrounds and a commitment to Inclusion Excellence; Teaching and or training experience in educational software, applications and hardware; a solid understanding and demonstration of instructional design methodologies, and best practices in teaching and learning; knowledge of ADA and UDL principles to coach and help faculty integrate into teaching practice; knowledge of instructional coaching models; ability to make recommendations on software and tools that will enhance the teaching and learner experience; knowledge of web-conferencing applications; competency in screen casting and screen capture; knowledge of course management systems (Moodle preferred); competency in different operating systems (Windows, IOs); excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail; and the ability to work independently and as a member of a team, problem-solve, juggle multiple priorities, and work with timeframes. Work experience in an educational environment preferred. Some travel, evenings and weekends as needed, and some work beyond normal hours are required.
