General Overview: The Social Media and Public Relations Specialist is responsible for developing and administering public awareness, education, and external communications surrounding ECPG programs and services. The successful Social Media and PR Specialist candidate is a passionate advocate with solid public relations skills, web and social media expertise. Key areas include strategic communications, social media content development, management, and tracking, media relations, public relations, and multimedia/publications/production experience. This position participates as a team member in all aspects of the Council's work. The Social Media and PR Specialist creates and provides information in an engaging and culturally sensitive manner to help groups and individuals better understand ECPG programs and services, the issues surrounding responsible and problem gambling and gaming, prevention, and opportunities for community involvement.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
- Develop communications strategies to consistently promote ECPG’s mission. Monitor and evaluate evolving technologies that could help ECPG improve audience engagement.
- Create, curate, and manage an active ECPG social media presence within a wide variety of social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, blogs and online discussion forums, content development, SEO, and Google Analytics. Track and measure results to provide monthly report of effectiveness.
- Oversee and optimize Website content -- working with Office Manager and all staff and outside service providers – to ensure that the ECPG Website (www.evergreencpg.org) and all additional web pages, landing sites, and microsites, are kept up-to-date with timely content updates. Work with ECPG's Office Manager and all staff colleagues to collaborate on content, post updates, and improve the functionality of ECPG Website and social media platforms.
- Assist with development and oversee content/database management for webinars and web-based education programs.
- Prepare education and awareness materials such as newsletters, presentations, news releases, brochures, fact sheets, reports, displays, and other educational/outreach materials.
- Take lead role in developing and overseeing programs and campaigns for National Problem Gambling Awareness Month.
- Serve as the ECPG public information officer to cultivate media contacts and place stories and opinion pieces in print, broadcast, blogs and other online sources. Maintain media distribution lists and make pitch calls to reporters and editorial writers to generate media coverage of ECPG programs and campaigns.
- Position ECPG as the leading expert in Washington State on issues concerning problem gambling and responsible gaming.
- Ability to work both independently and as a collaborative team member to ensure program effectiveness and provide input on projects/programs that will maximize positive impacts on the community and provide the highest level of customer service.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in communications, public relations, marketing, or related field and minimum three years of responsible experience in all aspects of social media development, initiation, management, and tracking; managing public awareness, outreach, communications for a nonprofit organization or agency or a for-profit firm.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
- Must possess a valid Washington Driver’s License. Ability to drive a personal vehicle for work with current auto insurance.
Required Skill in:
- Strong writing, editing, verbal communication, and listening skills.
- Presenting complex information in an interesting and meaningful manner.
- Solid command of numerous technological applications, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe Creative Suite/Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign or other design software applications; proficient in the use of personal computers, general business applications, and social networking and marketing concepts and platforms.
- Experience working with local, state, regional, and national media.
- Exhibiting initiative and sound judgment with strong interpersonal skills and commitment to working collaboratively with a wide range of partners.
- Strong organizational and planning skills and attention to detail. Ability to follow multiple and sometimes competing tasks through to completion with minimal supervision and within the deadlines set for each project/task.

Additional Desired Skills:
- Ability to communicate in and/or understand other languages.
- Demonstrated experience with and understanding of Web design software.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
- Work is performed in an office environment and off-site locations across Washington State.
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including day, evening, overnight, and weekend availability, depending on assignments and travel up to 20 percent of the time, including driving to presentations, meetings, seminars, and at least two 5-day conferences a year.
- Subject to sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting of objects up to 50 pounds.
