ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE DEAN OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM) at Florida International University (FIU) seeks applicants for an open rank appointment as Assistant/Associate Dean of Professional Development, within the Office of Academic Affairs. This role is pivotal in enhancing the capabilities of our undergraduate and graduate medical education teaching faculty thereby promoting professional growth and scholarly activities. This involves supporting faculty advancement and scholarship through workshops, mentoring, coaching initiatives, and strategic use of extramural offerings. The successful candidate will design and deliver interactive workshops, develop online faculty development tools, and assist promotion-eligible faculty in creating comprehensive teaching portfolios.
Additionally, the role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to develop systems for evaluating teaching and learning environments, supporting continual improvement efforts, and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards. The candidate will create programs to support faculty in developing research skills and increasing scholarly productivity, ensure faculty development programs meet LCME and ACGME requirements, and maintain data necessary for accreditation and continuous quality improvement (CQI) processes.
Minimum qualifications include an MD or PhD degree and at least five years of experience as a faculty member at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. A minimum of three years of experience in academic/educational leadership or equivalent experience is required.
Preferred qualifications include demonstrated experience in faculty development within medical education; experience with LCME and ACGME accreditation standards; excellent oral and written communication skills; proven experience in being able to work collaboratively with other Departments, administrators, and university stakeholders; and evidence of a commitment to mentoring and developing faculty.
