Term Faculty, Accounting

 

The George Mason University School of Business has an opportunity for a Term Faculty appointment to teach Accounting. The position will start Fall 2023. The initial appointment will be for one academic year, with a potential opportunity for renewal. Salary will be commensurate with qualification and experience.

 

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include teaching various accounting courses in the undergraduate and graduate programs (with a focus on auditing, fraud examination, accounting analytics, and financial accounting courses), research (if applicable), and service to the Accounting Area, the School of Business, the University, and the profession, such as student mentoring, committee membership, and interfacing with the business community. The teaching load for this position is determined according to the School’s workload policy.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in accounting or a closely related field from an AACSB-accredited institution;
  • Significant teaching experience to work in both face-to-face and online spaces to create materials, support existing programs, and teach stand-alone courses; and
  • Good citizenship and the ability to work well with colleagues.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certification in accounting area (e.g., CPA, CIA, CMA, CISA);
  • A strong analytical background and a solid understanding of applying data analytics in accounting courses; and
  • Publications in business and accounting peer-reviewed journals.

 

Accounting Area:

The Accounting Area has diverse research and teaching interests. We offer a vibrant, ambitious, and collegial research and teaching community. Research is highly valued in the area and at the school. At present, there are 24 full-time faculty members in the area. The Accounting Area faculty has published in many of the premier accounting journals including The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Contemporary Accounting Research, and Review of Accounting Studies, as well as other top journals.
