Marshall University seeks an outstanding and experienced leader to serve as the Dean of the College of Science. The Dean will be an innovative, dynamic, and transformative leader who will be a change agent in bringing the College to the next level as it builds upon its past strengths and develops its vision for a future in support of its students and its region.

 

The College of Science offers a wide spectrum of science, pre-professional/pre-health care, and integrated technology programs organized into five departments: Biological Sciences; Criminal Justice, Criminology, and Forensic Sciences; Mathematics and Physics; Chemistry; and Natural Resources & Earth Sciences. The college offers 25 degree programs, including 17 at the undergraduate level and 8 at the graduate level.   

 

The Dean, who reports directly to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, has responsibility for all administration and management of the college. The Dean provides visionary and strategic leadership for the college and is the principal representative of the college, with responsibility for continually enhancing the college's profile, resource streams, and connection with the community. The ideal candidate will possess experience cultivating and strengthening relationships with alumni; a track record of managing resources and budgetary control systems; an innovative approach to marketing, branding, and communications; effective team-building and interpersonal skills; a strong research background, including managing large collaborative grants, projects, and research collaborations; and a laser focus on growing enrollments, retention, and student success through participating in campus-wide and college-level strategic enrollment management. 

 

Marshall University is a public comprehensive research university with a rich history as one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in West Virginia. The university achieved Doctoral University, High Research Activity, R2 status in 2018 and offers more than 150 undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree programs.
