Custodian:
$10/Per hour.
Part-Time Position:
29 Hours a week
Monday – Thursday 9 am – 4 pm & Friday 9 am – 2 pm
Job Summary:
Provides a variety of cleaning, maintenance, and grounds keeping duties and maintains the building to ensure the upkeep, neatness, and cleanliness of the same on a daily basis.

Facilities Cleaning Responsibilities (60%)
- Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms; cleans sinks and toilets, polishes mirrors, and replenishes supplies.
- Sweeps and mops floors when needed.
- Sweeps, vacuums, mops floors; sweeps sidewalks.
- Cleans windows; dusts and polishes furniture and fixtures.
- Empty trash cans regularly; collects trash from grounds and cleans trash cans.
- Directs the work of community service workers as needed.
Facilities Maintenance Responsibilities (25%)
- Monitors and repairs/replace light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, spotlights, exit lights and other lighting malfunctions.
- Assists in unloading and carrying of donations and other Salvation Army materials.
- Assembles and moves office furniture including chairs, desks, tables, bulletin boards, etc.
- Assists in setting up meeting rooms; set up tables and chairs; puts ice in glasses and sets out drinks.
- Performs general maintenance in the repair of toilets, urinals, drains, etc.; informs the Corps Officers of maintenance problems needing additional assistance.
Grounds Keeping Responsibilities (15%)
- Maintains grounds; edges lawns, sidewalks, and curbs; performs weed eating of the grounds.
- Rakes, vacuums, and blows leaves and debris from sidewalks and parking lots.
- Plants flowers, shrubs, trees, etc.; moves flower beds; seeds new grass.
- Collects and discards debris and trash from grounds.
Other Responsibilities:
- Picks-up and delivers miscellaneous items as needed for the Corps.
- Oversees the maintenance of all vehicles; drives vehicles to get oil changes and other maintenance as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of effective cleaning and sanitizing practices, general building and grounds maintenance practices and procedures including proper safety precautions.
- Knowledge of the Spanish language preferred (not required).
- Ability to perform routine cleaning duties, minor repairs, and maintenance activities of buildings and grounds.
- Ability to use and maintain cleaning and maintenance equipment and tools effectively and in a safe manner.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
- Ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle following all laws, regulations, and policies.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
Education and Experience:
- No formal education required,
- Six months experience performing general janitorial and general maintenance duties;
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certifications:
- Valid State Driver's License
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to meet attendance requirements.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively.
- Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects.
- Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.
- Ability to exert the physical energy required to perform the needed janitorial, and maintenance work.
- Ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle safely following all laws, regulations, and policies.
- Duties are performed standing and require squatting, climbing, bending and walking. Any of the preceding duties may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of sitting.
- Extensive amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying heavy objects (over 50 lbs.).
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environment with exposure to dirt, dust, disagreeable sights and/or odors, and various temperatures.
