The LPN will function as a member of the Inpatient Medical Team providing direct and indirect care to children served. In addition, the general duties include providing communication with clients and caregivers, observing client health and assisting members of the medical team.
Examples of Essential Functions
- Collects vitals and other wellness indicators before prescriber appointments; read TB skin tests, assist with gathering medical information prior to admission;
- Responds to client/caregivers medication questions and refill requests;
- Receive telephone, verbal, or written physician orders and process according to agency policies and established processes;
- Maintains clients records and clinical documentation;
- Triage medical needs of campus clients/consumers during shift and with an on-call rotation to triage client/consumer illnesses/injuries after hours and on weekends.
- Provides education and consultation with parents/caregivers;
- Works collaboratively with members of the medical team to support client treatment;
- Maintain professional boundaries with clients/consumers, families, and other agency employees;
- Completes all necessary training as assigned including required continuous education, conference attendance, review of relevant materials, and completion of Relias trainings;
- Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with Tanager Place policies; procedures and safety practices;
- Attends work regularly at the designated place and time;
- Performs related work as required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Effectively utilize the agency’s Electronic Health Record system;
- Knowledge and use of the agency’s Resilience and Trauma-Informed Care model;
- Meet criteria for certification with the State of Iowa as an LPN and have current/active nursing licensure;
- Understanding of psychiatric illness, its treatment, and knowledge of psychotropic medication;
- Ability to critically think through issues/problems and identify effective solutions/outcomes;
- Ability to review and implement established treatment plans;
- Ability to support the psycho-social care of clients served;
- Ability to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology;
- Ability to effectively work in a team care model;
- Competencies in the use of Electronic Health Record software and Microsoft Office;
- Basic computer skills;
- Strong written and verbal communication.

Acceptable Experience/Training/ Education:
- Graduate from an accredited LPN program and current licensure required.
- Prefer one year of experience in a psychiatric setting.
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Required Special Qualifications:
- Certification with the State of Iowa as an LPN and have current/active nursing licensure.
Schedule:
- Monday-Friday, second shift; 13:00-21:00 or 14:00-22:00
