Senior Financial Reporting Analyst
The University of Virginia VP for Finance seeks applicants for a Sr. Financial Reporting Analyst to perform professional accounting work of a complex nature. This position will execute institutional, state, and federal policies, procedures, and restrictions, ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) in executing, analyzing, verifying, and reporting transactions of a fiscal nature, and advise management regarding the effective use of resources and methods to maximize earnings. The Sr. Financial Reporting Analyst is responsible for monitoring records of past and present operations and may serve as a project leader on special projects. Work is somewhat routine in nature and performed under general supervision. The Sr. Financial Reporting Analyst role differs from the accountant role they operate with additional authority, independence, or level of complexity and may be asked to provide additional support throughout the Finance organization. This role supports the function of Finance Accounting function; reporting to the Director of Financial Reporting and Accounting. Flexible remote, hybrid and in-person work options are available.
Responsibilities:
- Supports in preparing quarterly and year-end financial statements. Will actively work with Financial Reporting, other departments, and internal/external auditors.
- Supports in preparing external reports of financial data (IPEDS, NACUBO, etc.).
- Support in the creation, review, and documentation of financial accounting and operations policies and procedures.
- Aid in coordination of accounting matters with other departments, locations, and divisions including reconciliations and compliance related control measures when appropriate.
- Perform analysis of financial transactions, ensuring adherence with federal, state, and University standards and regulations and document associated business processes.
- Review and verify the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications.
- Analyze financial reports and records, making studies or recommendations on accounting reserves, assets and expenditures for the Financial Accounting and Reporting group.
- Develop or recommend accounting methods and procedures. Provide systems analysis.
- Work with other areas of Finance as needed, that include, but are not limited to cost accounting, sponsored research, leases and tax, and others.
- Support in reviewing and preparing of supporting documentation for business processes.
- Aid in the creation of transitional documentation supporting current and future state considerations regarding Financial system and ERP transformation.
- Crosstrain with financial reporting team.
- In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree
- Five years of accounting or related financial experience
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Revenue accounting and month-end close process experience
- Exceptional organization and execution/follow-up skills
- Ability to see big picture and know when/how to dive deeper into details
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to effectively work with many different teams across the organization
- Exceptional Excel skills and proficiency
- Experience working with data visualization tools
- Preferred: CPA licensure

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Bachelor's degree in finance related field Experience: Five years of experience. Licensure: CMA, CFA, CTP, or CPA is typically possessed or acquired while in the position. PHYSICAL DEMANDS This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
